
The first breed club for French Bulldog was founded in Paris in 1880.The first pedigree bookreg. of the breed took place in 1885 and the first standard was written and established in 1898 when the French Kennel Club approved the breed.Bu we can go back much further. There are many different theories.
Aexcavations,researchers have found skeletons, mummies and pottery figurines, which shows that in ancient Peru, there has been a dog, Chincha Bulldog, how had many similarities with contemporary French Bulldog.Efter discovery of America the Spaniards took the Chincha Bulldog with tem returning to their homes country. Offspring derived from them may well have ended up in Paris later. The issue of these dogs have also entered into the breeding material which forms the basis for today's French bulldog, is not known with certainty.

Breeding material originating from England, this is a little more confident. In the mid-19th century, many workers migrated from the English lace industry in Nottingham, to France, and settled around Calais and Paris. With him was the small Bulldogge with tulip ears. These miniature bulldog, is believed to be descended from the English Bulldog. By systematic breeding of the smaller English Bulldog, the intention was to bred a very small, and because of the size, worked better as a companion dog. These small Bulldogge with tulip ears, became very quickly popular in France and especially in Paris. Breeders were not as accurate in their aim. Uncontroled crossbreeed with small terrier types, and Mops occurred. But we took care, however, to constantly maintain and preserve the muscular body, and the main characteristic. At this point, the earshape was not given so much attentiom, but there began to appear Bulldogge up with pricked ears. After some
time, this type with these bat ears, became incredibly popular. It was this variation with erect ears that were the backbone of our time, French Bulldog, and in 1898 was described in the first standard and thus recognized as a breed. The standard has been revised in line with the breed development through the years. The current version of the breedstandard is from 1994, when the color fawn again was approved on an equal line with the colors and brindle colored.
From being a dog breed only for the working class, and among the butchers in the halls in Paris, the French Bulldog was highly respected, and a huge hit, higher up the social strata. Demimonderne allowed themselves often to be seen with a French Bulldog on his lap.

Artists as Degas and Toulouse Lautres have often pictured the French Bulldog, and the writer Colette's indispensable companion was a French Bulldog named Toydog. This was the way for the French Bulldogs to get higher social status.Kings, including the Danish, is known to have had the French Bulldog at the palace. In 1902, a French Bulldog sold to America for a large sum of money. And even before then, there were imported French Bulldog to England. Here the first French Bulldog Club outside of France was founded in 1902. In 2002 it could celebrate its 100th jubilee in England. It is believed that the first French Bulldog was introduced in Denmark in 1905 or the 1906th The Danish Bulldog Club English and French Bulldog was founded in 1908 and in 2008 the club celebrated its 100th jubilee with a jubilee show and a big gala dinner, with many participants from both Denmark and abroad.

Breeding of French Bulldogs in Denmark has over the years, had both ups and downs. After the second world war, it went steadily downward, both for breeding and for the quality of the breed. That changed in the 60s when a group of very serious breeders came along. The Danish population of French Bulldog was amplified with imports from Sweden and not least from England. English breeders had very successfully incorporated the best German bloodlines taken in England, in their breeding material. Bloodlines that had been lost in Germany. Some really good breeding dogs were imported and came in large scale to make their mark on the Danish breeding. From 1929 the Danish breeding of French Bulldogs was increased.
The honor was primarily a breeder named Poul Larsen, from Kennel Liliencron. Not least, his cooperation with German breeders, resulted in a much better quality of French Bulldog. French Bulldog began to assert themselves at exhibitions around the country and abroad.

Today, the French Bulldog is a very popular breed in Denmark, and the quality is extremely high, due to a large crowd of serious breeders in the country.
Breed only as companion dog and family dog.It is small but very sturdy, good-natured, with a lovely temperament. It is very ideal as a family dog because it is very child friendly.
